What to review over 7, 30 and 90 days: three social media analysis horizons

A week reveals operational problems, a month helps compare rubrics and formats, and a quarter highlights persistent changes without overreacting to one post.

The same report cannot answer every question. Seven days are useful for process control, a month for comparing editorial choices, and 90 days for understanding persistent change. Mixing those horizons makes it easy to treat a random spike as a trend.

7 days: check whether the process is working

On a weekly view, start with rhythm rather than metrics alone. Did every scheduled item publish? Were there long gaps? Did one format dominate unexpectedly? Were there delivery errors? A week is excellent for spotting operational issues.

30 days: compare rubrics and formats

A month gives enough material to compare groups of posts rather than isolated wins. Which rubrics appeared consistently? Which formats produced stronger available responses? Did the same content behave differently across platforms? Compare like with like instead of forcing different metrics into one universal score.

90 days: look for persistent changes

A quarterly window smooths out more randomness. Review whether strong rubrics are becoming more or less common, whether publishing consistency has changed, which formats are disappearing and how results line up with changes in the content plan.

Do not build a strategy around one winner

The strongest post of the month may have benefited from news, seasonality or an external event. It is more useful to check whether similar results repeat across a series of posts with the same purpose. Analytics should support the next decision, not produce a “post of the month” trophy.

Feed conclusions into the next plan

End the review with two or three actions: which rubric to keep, what to test again, and where frequency or format should change. That turns reporting into part of the next content cycle.

SMM Posting analytics supports 7, 30 and 90 day comparisons across available post metrics, platforms, formats and rubrics without manually merging several reports.
